my photo After five years of hard work, I have earned my Doctorate in Educational Leadership and can now proudly go by Dr. Darlene Moore, Ed.D. Graduate school allows students to explore new ideas and develop critical thinking skills while encouraging creative thinking. Throughout my journey, I gained a deeper understanding of project-based, brain-based, game-based, and inquiry-based learning, all essential themes in education.

This year, I plan to integrate project-based learning into my teaching, emphasizing essential themes like problem-solving, answering complex questions, and creating high-quality products. By using this approach, students can apply their knowledge to real-world situations. Moreover, I will incorporate brain-based learning, which involves three techniques: orchestrated immersion, creating immersive learning environments; relaxed alertness, eliminating fear in learners while maintaining a challenging environment; and active processing, allowing learners to consolidate their learning.

This school year, our 5th-grade class at Southgate Elementary will use game- and inquiry-based learning strategies. Game-based learning combines gameplay with subject matter to improve retention and practical application of knowledge to real-world problems. Meanwhile, inquiry-based learning encourages student learning through individual investigation and self-direction.

As an educator, I strive to enable students by tailoring my teaching techniques to align with the Common Core State Standards. To accomplish this, I encourage my students and introduce them to various cultural events and figures across multiple subjects, such as technology, art, science, geography, history, music, literature, and math. I aim to cultivate greater understanding and empathy towards diverse cultures and individuals.
