my class photo Mrs. Courtney Brown is delighted and proud to serve as the K – 3 STEAM Teacher at Eagle Academy-Congress Heights for the 2016 – 2017 school year. Mrs. Brown began serving students as a private tutor and permanent substitute teacher at Eagle Academy – Capitol Riverfront campus for the 2015 - 2016. As Mrs. Brown has embraced the opportunity to meet new learners in her current role at Congress Heights, she brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to her instruction as she seeks to heighten student interest and take the learning experience in the STEAM lab to the next level. Prior to serving at Eagle Academy PCS, Mrs. Brown substitute taught science and math in Maryland in both the private and public sector and privately tutored as a Wyzant Tutor.

Mrs. Brown’s sincere passion and conviction in the sciences led her to pursue a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a Science Concentration from Concordia University (Portland, OR). Mrs. Brown vision for students in the STEAM lab is to “unpack the wonderful discoveries that can be found in science, technology, engineering, art and math through innovative, engaging and memorable experiences that increase interest, learning and academic achievement.” Mrs. Brown regularly implements all of the knowledge she has acquired from her studies in every effort to help students of all learning styles and abilities succeed. Mrs. Brown makes a daily commitment to teach the “whole” child and uses every interaction and/or conversation as an opportunity for learning and growth with her students. Serving the K - 3 STEAM teacher here at Congress Heights allows Mrs. Brown to interact with a diverse span of students on consistent basis. In this role, Mrs. Brown is truly able to implement in both word and action the schools mission. Mrs. Brown continually co-labors with the administration, faculty and staff to educationally “build a foundation for a promising future in all students”. As students enter into the lab for enrichment, Mrs. Brown receives the “baton of teaching” passed by each classroom teacher and continues all efforts to create and maintain a “rich, robust learning environment”. Mrs. Brown “embraces creativity” in such a manner as will “foster cognitive, social and emotional growth.”
