We have been reading Because of Winn Dixie by Kate DiCamillo. We try to read in different ways each day. For example, we read with buddies, in small groups. teacher read-alouds, listen to the CD narration, and read silently. We are completing a comprehension packet that includes questions on identifying details, cause/effect, figurative language, summarizing, main idea, understanding characters, and making predictions/inferences. We intend to finish this book by the end of the week. Students will be able to take an AR quiz over this book and it will count towards their point goal for this quarter. Students will also take a test over the book later this week.

In English, we are currently working in our Language Folders. These activities will spiral throughout the year and are a great review of grammar skills. We have practiced with nouns, pronouns, types of sentences, and punctuation so far. We are moving on to prefixes next.
